While figures are not disclosed, it has been reported that the band, before sealing its commitment to the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" a few years back was making $44,000 per show.
Concert promoters offered "The Roots" 25% more per show but the "Late Night" commitment forced the group to refuse most requests.
In 2009, Forbes estimated a $10 million gross for the band. The band's 5 year contract with eight weeks off every year was considered a jackpot. On top of the band's salary from NBC, a tour for a month could gross $2 million.
In February 2014, when Jimmy Fallon replaced Jay Leno as host of “The Tonight Show”, “The Roots” became the house band of the show.
